The dreaded dark circles under the eyes. You know the drill. You take a peek into the mirror and see tired eyes staring back at you, but no matter what you try you can’t seem to get rid of them. Don’t worry, you’re not alone! We have you covered day and night so your dreams of happy, healthy skin will soon become a reality.

Most of us experience tired-looking eyes at some time or another, while for others, it can feel like those dark circles are always there. So, what causes those dark circles to appear, and what can we do about them?

What causes dark circles under the eyes?

There are a lot of reasons why dark circles might appear under the eyes. Lifestyle factors such as late nights, poor sleep, and stress can all make under dark circles look worse. In some cases, they are simply down to genetics, as under eye pigmentation can be passed down through your family.

Too much screen time is also a contributing factor. We spend a lot of time using our phones and laptops which can cause strain on our eyes and make dark shadows appear more prominent.

Dark circles are also a sign of aging. As we get older, skin loses its elasticity, making under eye shadows more noticeable. The skin around our eyes is extremely delicate, so it’s important to protect it as part of your everyday skincare routine

Now we know the main reasons that can cause dark circles, what can we do about getting rid of them, or at least manage them? We've done the hard work for youcreating these products with trusted skin experts and tested by real people for real skin results!

Here are a few tips to help:

Check your diet

What you eat and especially what you drink has consequences for the condition of your skin. A balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables will help to reduce dark circles and improve the overall appearance of your skin. But the strongest piece of advice is to remain hydrated throughout the day by drinking lots of water. This can help to reduce the appearance of puffy eyes and keep your skin glowing.

Get lots of sleep

Aiming to get at least seven hours of sleep a night is recommended. This will help you to rest properly, revitalise and reduce the appearance of dark under eye circles. If you have problems sleeping productively, try to establish a good routine by going to bed at around the same time every night, and try to minimise screen time an hour or so beforehand.

To complete your bedtime routine, we’d recommend using our creamy Sweet Dreams Night Moisturiser before you go to sleep.
